Gastropubs are some of the most popular restaurants in the United States. But they got their start across the pond. In 1991 a London pub called The Eagle was put under new management. They added to the menu and rather than serving typical pub food, they focused on serving high quality comfort food, usually with an Italian influence...and thus the Gastropub was born! Now, American restaurants have picked up the trend and are starting to serve lavish food in a comfortable setting.
